Allium giganteumOf all the bulbs I grow in the Dry Garden this is the most spectacular. Huge perfectly round flower heads of purple pink flowers are carried on 100-120 cm tall stems during late spring and early summer. When in leaf growth during winter and early spring it needs to be in full sun. During the summer the spot where the bulbs are planted is shaded by Agastache and Sedum. Allium giganteum, whilst expensive to buy, can be easily raised from seed which it sets in copious amounts. It will take about five years to flower from seed. |
