Colchicum

Colchicum

A genus of very useful, tough autumn flowering bulbs (and a few miffy spring flowering species) which suit our climate very well. They flower, make their leaf growth and retire into dormancy during autumn, winter and spring. Most Colchicum have large leaves and may smother smaller bulbs if planted too closely to them. Allowing a spread of about 40cm would not be too much. Our biggest group is planted between an olive tree and a privet hedge but this year we are planting Colchicums under deciduous trees and shrubs. Colchicums can be sent out in February only.
