This is one of the showiest New Zealand spring flowers producing a gorgeous display of soft lilac flowers on long stems during October and November. It used to be grown in many gardens in Melbourne 50 years ago. H. hulkeana is an evergreen shrub making 50cm x 70cm with a cloud of flowers some 40 to 45 cm above this. It has grown well in a hot sunny spot in our stock garden on a fortnightly watering schedule.
