Ixia paniculata

This is one of my favourite South African bulbs. It grows about 40cm tall here at Lambley but can grow taller in more benign climates. Its wiry branching stem carries up to 20 cream coloured, crimson flushed flowers. The flowers have a very long perianth tube and is pollinated by two species of long tongued flies. It’s easily grown as long as it isn’t cramped during the growing season. 40cm x 10cm.
