Babiana stricta ‘Purple Star’
Babianas, which hail from Southern Africa, are easily grown small bulbs which give the garden a splash of colour during spring. Several bright magenta-purple flowers are produced on each 15cm stem. Wants a sunny spot in the garden and is happiest where it doesn’t get too much extra irrigation during summer. It copes very well with us planted under later growing perennials. The name Babiana refers to the fact that the bulbs of this genus are reputed to be eaten by Baboons.
