We grow about a dozen different Bergenias in our stock beds. Abendglut is a tough ground cover for sun or light shade with scalloped leaves which in cold areas turn red during winter. Produces telling dark rose-magenta double flowers during late winter and spring. Bergenias make good plants for a shady spot, even dry shade once established.
