Herbs, Chinese Leeks/Garlic Chives/Kow Choi (Allium tuberosum)
Garlic chives are a perennial onion relative with a flavour closer to garlic than chives. The leaves are used in stir fries, pancakes and dumplings as well as a garlic substitute in stews etc. Plant seed in drills in early spring and transplant into permanent position when big enough. Space 15cm between plants 30cm between rows.
Also a wonderful bee-friendly ornamental for the flower garden.
When to sow: September - October
Where to sow: Sow in a seed bed for transplanting
Depth to sow: 1/2cm
Aspect: Full sun or as sunny a spot as possible.
Soil: Prepared, well drained, fertilised soil. Add lime if soil is too acid.
Spacing: Between plants 15cm Between rows 30cm
