Colchicum speciosum
This, the most beautiful of all the Colchicum species, comes from Turkey and the Caucasus and has perfectly shaped goblets, deep pinkish purple with a white throat. The flowers are produced during mid-autumn here at Lambley and the foliage appears quite late in winter. Best in full sun or light shade. Like most of its race the leaves are large and handsome. A spacing of 40cm between bulbs would not be too much as they increase pretty well.
