Magnolia figo
Syn. Michelia figo
The creamy white, cup shaped flowers flowers of Magnolia figo have the fragrance of a ripe cantaloupe. This fragrance is strong enough to pervade a good part of the garden. A native of China, where so many beautiful garden shrubs originate, it will make a largish evergreen shrub some 3 metres tall by 2 metres across. Foliage is dark glossy green when well fed. Whilst best grown in dappled shade, it will grow quite happily in full sun as long as it is watered during dry periods.
