Vitaceae
Parthenocissus quinquefolia
Virginia Creeper
It’s one of the great joys of late autumn here at Lambley when the Virginia Creeper sets the vegetable garden paling fence on fire as the green, five fingered leaves turn an intense red. Fast growing and happy in sun or light shade, it can climb up to 30 or 40 metres but can be kept down to 2 metres by two metres. In some places it is used to keep buildings cool during summer. It is a self-clinging climber and is excellent for covering old or unsightly fences or sheds.
